RF energy is converted to heat to penetrate and interact with skin and fat layers. Depending on the device being used, this will either happen with different applicators for skin tightening and fat reduction separately, or using one applicator — especially if you have a multipolar device.
In all cases, the electrical current moves from positive to negative and seeks the most conductive medium to find the shortest route. This medium is water, present in muscle tissue. Therefore, it is important that there should be no water present on the skin, or in the gel, as it will interfere with the objective of penetrating to deeper layers of the skin and adipose tissue.
